D is For Dale

D is For Dale
 Oil  on MDF
246x246mm
 $500
sold

This is a postcard within a postcard or a painting within a painting if you like. The one pinned to the wall behind the bottles is from my colleague Marianne Muggeridge, and is a view of Mt Taranaki.  The yellow D on the childs block is my partner Dales's initial. There seemed to be a lot of male/female elements going  in this work and I toyed with the idea of calling it Anima Animus which is Jung's names for the male and female principle found in all of us. I can never remember which is which. A problem that only seems to get worse with age...

Still life With Pluto

Still life With Pluto
Oil on linen on MDF
88x121mm

This was an eclectic but tight arrangement of objects on my shelf that appealed to me. It has a Morandi feel about it the way the objects are tightly clustered along the horizontal, and is lit from underneath. I liked the Pluto character figurine perched on the matchbox against the red of the coffee mug. I tryed to keep the painting loose and lively.

I've also updated my new blog "Another Day". I must admit to being a bit dissapointed by the lack of reaction to it. I've tryed to make it interesting, and I've tryed my hardest to promote it, but it has had very few visits and little feedback or comments. It's very easy for me to feel Eyeorish... If anyone has any positive suggestions on how I can improve it to make it more interesting please let me know!

Mixed Fruit

Three Limes in a Bowl
Watercolour on Velin De Lana
$150

Saucer of Fruit on Small Book

Watercolour on gessoed cardboard

$100

I was happy with the lively nature of the second one here. I tryed working on gessoed card which has a quite different feel about it to paper. The paint sits on the surface more and you can wipe it off more easily to correct things.

Corner Still life

Corner Still lifeOil on gessoed board
330x330mm
$2500
This one is bigger than the usual paintings I post here. It's got many of the conventional still life elements, including grapes. I kind of zoomed out in my view of it to include the bits of background cardboard props.

Another tiny miniature. The major reason I've been doing these miniatures is because I've been waiting for more paint to arrive from my supplier. In many ways they take as long as larger paintings to do. You just use smaller brushes. And less paint. I always think of Morandi when I do these kind of clustered compositions.
