Used Bandage

Used Bandage
Oil on linen on cardboard
$100
sold
I sliced my thumb while cutting boards so was wearing bandages all week. I thought I'd paint the bandage but by then it had stopped bleeding so I stuck a pin in my thumb just to make sure it still hurt. I needed the red. Artists have to suffer for their art.

Remnants

Remnants
Oil on gessoed board

I wanted to see how a burnt match would look on the red so I painted this one directly after finishing the safety pin. This time I tempered the red slightly with a touch of yellow.

I thought this would look good on a red background and I used Cadmium Red Medium straight from the tube. It's rare for me to use such a bold colour in such a fashion. It felt very indulgent.

Red Tap Handle

Red Tap Handle
Oil on gessoed board

I was drawn by the mandala like aspect of this and also the red on white colour scheme. Simple symetrical objects are always more difficult to get right.

Late Capsicum

Red Capsicum Pepper
Watercolour on Velin de Lana
90x255mm

This was a small capsicum I grew. I thought I'd found them all, but I saw a gleam of red amongst the weeds the other day and there this was.
