Mouldy lemon anyone? Well, I couldn't sell a fresh one anyway so I may as well paint what I see. It occurred to me that the pattern of mould on the lemon resembled continents on a globe. Maybe that's how I see the world - as a mouldy old lemon.

A friend gave me some lemons from her tree. I think she was a bit put out that I decided to paint what was probably the worst pick of the bunch! Literally the "real lemon" . Or is that metaphorically the real lemon...? Anyhoo, I painted it because I found it interesting. I was fascinated by the spiral shape in towards the stem. I guess it's blighted quality is emphasised by the fact that I chose to present it on a "nice plate".
