Paintings of cherries seemed popular about two years ago when I couldn't paint them fast enough. Fashions change. This year it's pencils. I thought I'd paint some cherries anyway for old times sake. I painted it quickly and resisted my usual compulsion to go over it again, correcting tones etc, so it's very fresh. Fresh cherries anyone?

These are organicly grown red cherries and I've noticed that they tend not to last as long as the darker ones. I've got to paint faster!

It's that time of the year again when cherries are back in the shops here. I love the fact that I can buy them and justify it as a "working expense"...!

I painted this one on christmas eve. I wasn't that happy with it and on looking at it today I decided to repaint it. The paint had dryed and it's always different painting over another layer of paint. You lose something of the freshness and immediacy of the allaprima, however you gain something else. Transparent layers and glazes of paint produce a glowing richness.
