I was trying out some new colours that I recently purchased. A new Maimeri range of Italian earth pigments. They are quite beautiful and subtle colours but as usual with most oil paint these days, they are ground in far too much safflower oil. I want to paint a picture, not dress a salad! I wanted to see if I could do the entire painting with just those earth colours, but I also used the white lead that I grind myself with linseed oil.
Apologies to those of you on my mailing list who recieve this twice. Two wishes! I'm trying out a new bulk email software program. And anyone not on my mailing list who would like to be please let me know.
I'd like to thank you all for your encouragement and support and wish you a very happy festive season and New Year.
I like trying new surfaces and grounds for painting, and this one was painted on hardboard primed with white lead in the traditional manner. I liked the colour combination of yellow/orange, green and purple.
This beautiful little insect was attracted to it while I was photographing the painting.
