Oil on cotton canvas panel
203x254mm.
Painted on the coldest day we've had so far this winter here in Taranaki, with snow down on the ranges. I noticed the difference in paint handling with the colder temperature! Sold n
My Ten Cents

One of the things I've discovered that these little paintings are about, is scale, which is quite a different thing to size. The painting here is small and yet I've actually painted the subject matter about twice life-size. The irony is that our ten cent piece is about to be made smaller!

Blue Plastic Cowboy

I tryed to paint this one a bit more freely. I love these cheap and nasty plastic toys! I perversly enjoy painting all the flashings and mouldings. It looks like he's backed up as much as he can go without falling over the edge...What do these figures say about our culture? Sold n

Aprox 80x80 To bid click hereI've got to stop painting these fiddley little figures, I'm worried about my sanity! He seems to have a ghostly surreal quality about him. I wonder if he's a good guy or a bad guy?

I found this washed up on the beach. I think it is a macrocarpa cone. I had just been reading about the tesellation of planes using polygons and so was fascinated by natures way of tesellating a sphere.

I was reminded of my partner Dale Copeland whilst painting this. It kind of looks like her, although she's more pink than blue. Her motto for life is "dance till they drop you".

Tui Bottle Cap

I found this bottle cap on the beach while walking my dog.
TradeMe Cornflake
Oil on gessoed board
95x80mm
June 1st, 06
The original cornflake which served as the model for this painting, I won, in New Zealand TradeMe auction number: 56034758. The seller has very graciously allowed me free intellectual copyright to make this painting of one of NZ's greatest icons. I have chosen to paint it exactly as he so carefully packaged and presented it. Here is the original description of the original cornflake as it apeared in the original auction:
"A real collectable. Found down the side of our old tenth hand fridge. In my opinion it must be from a Skippy Cornflake packet from the 70's. It seems to have a crispy dry texture which is quite unique for its age but not surprising due to the preservatives from that decade."
