Small postcard and postage stamp sized paintings from New Zealand artist Paul Hutchinson
This is really cute, what a fun idea for a painting. I like the fact that your backgrounds have so much texture but don't compete with your subjects.
Hi Paul- just wanted to say congrats on winning in the Taranaki Art review comp!
I like this one. Nice palette and subtle cast shadow. Sweet!
I sometimes feel a little Goofy myself.Kidding aside, I'm facinated by how the highlights on his gloves seem whiter & brighter then the background. Some magic at work here.
Your work is top notch!
Thanks for all the positive comments! Chuck - Yes, highlights of white on white are always a problem! I tryed to get around it by using titanium white instead of the warmer flake white for the little highlights. Also, manipulating the directional brushstrokes to reflect the phisical light back in different ways is a technique I'm only just beginning to come to grips with.
