I've been having a few emails concerning the picture obscuring the text in the Google Groups postings.  I've tryed something to hopefully fix it.  If you are still unable to read this text let me know.  Of course that last sentence is redundant for obvious reasons....

People often complain that I look miserable in my self portraits.  I just paint what I see. Perhaps I don't like what I see?

Reflection in Dusty Mirror

Reflection in Dusty Mirror
Oil on linen on MDF
125x90mm
I enjoy painting quick sketches.  The problem with that, is that because it is enjoyable there is a tendancy to carry it too far and lose the spontaneity.  The mirror was very dusty and with the sun shining onto it, providing only a vague reflection, so it was very much "through a glass darkly".

I thought it looked like the cross section of a boat's hull rocked in a stormy sea.

A quick sketch of buttercups.  Hopefully it has something of the almost desperate urgency of Spring.

Daffodils at the Window - Detail

Daffodils at the Window - Detail
Oil on gessoed board
This is a detail of the Daffodils painting that I am auctioning via this blog.  The highest bid so far is $120 and the bidding ends at 12 midnight friday September 4th NZ Standard time.  The highest offer I recieve by that time will win the auction. I have pledged that %50 will go the the NZ Cancer Society as my small contribution to their Daffodil Day appeal.
The painting is somewhat larger than most of the "postcard" sized paintings on this blog and normally I would be asking at least $500 for it, so it is quite a bargain at the present bid!

Update: I've had two further bids this morning and at present it stands at $150. Click here to bid your higest offer.

Update 11am: Just recieved bid for$200
Update 6pm:  $220

Follow updates as I recieve them on my Twitter http://twitter.com/Puniho

Daff

Daff
Oil on linen on MDF

Painted quickly it has a certain liveliness about it. I'm happy that it avoids the "prettiness" that is such an easy trap to fall into when painting flowers.  Perhaps the day's CD choice helped, this time it was the gritty melancholy of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds... The Boatman's Call.
Also a reminder that my auction for Daffodils at the Window closes this friday at 12 midnight. There have been three bids and it is currently at $120 at the time of this posting. I welcome any further bids. I am donating %50 to the Cancer Society.
