To ward the vampires off. Actually I think it looks like a little boat. I've put this one up on Ebay, and a reminder that there is just one day left to bid on Empty Goblet. At present the winning bid is a staggering $14.50....

Second Jonquil

Second Jonquil
Oil on linen on MDF
105x100mm
sold
This is actually the same jonquil I picked for the previous painting, after it had opened up. Yesterday was a very dark, wet and miserable day here in Taranaki, and it felt good to paint something with a bit of hopeful promise. I'm trying to keep the paint as loose and free as I'm able, while hopefully still retaining something of the delicate nature of the flowers.

Rusted Nut

Rusted Nut
Oil on linen on MDF

Apparently simple objects like this are often more difficult than you'd first think. I don't feel it's a successful image at this scale and I was wondering how it would be painted bigger. Maybe another day...

Plastic Shaver in Glass Bottle

Plastic Shaver in Glass Bottle
Oil on linen on board
175x130mm
$200
This subject has been literally sat on the shelf for some time now. I knew I wanted to paint it but for one reason or another I procrastinated until now. It has an almost "crucified" quality about it and I recalled the lyric from a Paul Simon song - "the cross is in the ball-park" . I like the cadmium yellow of the handle.

I guess the live match for me represents unused potential, and here it is trapped inside a very small and old bottle.

For some time I have occasionally listed auctions on NZTradeMe, which has proved popular for NZers, however I'm aware that international collectors are unable to bid so I am going to start listing a few paintings on Ebay and see how it goes. To bid for this painting on Ebay click here. Starting bid is US$50.

Chocolate Fish

Chocolate Fish
Oil on linen on MDF
60x80mm
$80
I've never quite understood the NZ tradition of chocolate fish being given as a token reward. It's kind of like being awarded a gold star sticker as a child. They are full of marshmallow and are really quite horrible.
