Nasturtiums in a Small Bottle

Nasturtiums in a Small Bottle

I enjoyed painting this one. The colours of these flowers are so vibrant and intense that even pure cadmium orange and vermilion is only a pale approxamation! I suspect that Nature "cheats" and produces ultraviolet wave lengths to attract the insects.

My 20% off sale ends in two days.

Pohutakawa Leaf

Another one for the Kina Show. I thought I'd just paint a single leaf and I liked the way this one was half red and half green.
Some good news. I was awarded the first prize in the watercolour section of the Taranaki Art Awards for my "Smooth Banana" that I blogged here a while back.

I was drawn by the mandala like aspect of this and also the red on white colour scheme. Simple symetrical objects are always more difficult to get right.

Pohutakawa Branch With New Growth

Pohutakawa Branch With New Growth

This was painted for an exhibition at Kina Gallery on a theme of the Pohutakawa tree. I decided to paint just a branch and I liked the idea of the contrast between the old worm eaten leaves with the new spring growth.

Three Coloured Pencils

Three Coloured Pencils
Oil on gessoed board
I havn't updated this site for months now. I have been working on other projects in the meantime. However, I did this little painting the other day. I've been doing a lot of drawing and it felt good to do something colourfull for a change.
