Passion

I presume this is an old bottle for for some long forgotten soft drink. It was the incongruity of the word "passion" on a drab old bottle that appealed.

It was a lovely spring day and I felt like painting some buttercups. They are one of my favourite flowers with their intense yellow.

I just felt like painting another yellow pencil, this time just the eraser end. Good for rubbing out all your mistakes. On a whim I decided to sign my initials as though they were actually on the pencil.

Phoenix

I've been wanting to paint a burning match for a while now. A burning ambition... haha! Obviously it's a bit tricky painting it from life! I just lit a few matches and watched them burn then painted from memory as best as I could. I was fascinated by the black "shadow" left from the flame. A friend looking at this saw the shape of a bird in the flame I had painted, so it naturally seemed apt to title it "Phoenix".

Blue Hyacinth in Old Bottle

Blue Hyacinth in Old Bottle
Oil on linen mounted on MDF
220x150mm
There was something about the new spring flower in the old worn bottle that appealed. I was playing around with backgrounds and I felt a yellow to compliment the blue would be nice, so I grabbed whatever was in the immediate vicinity which happened to be a couple of rough self portrait sketches in red chalk on acidic yellow note paper. I kind of liked the composition with the jagged corners and acidic colour fighting against the delicacy of the blue flower. Not sure if it works or not really...

Green Pen

Green Pen
Oil on linen on MDF
95x160mm
Sold
I'm not very happy with my painting at the moment. This one started out as just the pen but it wasn't working. I gave up on it and the next day I added the torn bit of paper. It seemed to define the space more.
